Two big AI builds are going up at Abernathy, twenty-odd miles north of Lubbock on I-27: the TeraWulf–Fluidstack campus (168 MW, commissioning in the second half of 2026) and Aligned's Project Caprock, a 540 MW, 313-acre campus that broke ground in April 2026 with its first building due in early 2027. Between them that is years of electrical, mechanical and civil work within a short drive of the city.
Abernathy itself has about 2,800 people and not many beds, so the commute runs the other way: crews live in Lubbock and drive north. I-27 is a straight four-lane shot from the north loop to the Abernathy exits, and a normal morning is twenty to twenty-five minutes.
The Jackson is a furnished one-bedroom apartment in central Lubbock that sleeps four, with a full kitchen, its own bathroom and a key you keep for the stay.
