IREN handed Horizon 1—50 MW of liquid-cooled GB300 capacity—to Microsoft on August 13. Horizons 2, 3 and 4 are due before the year is out, on a campus that already runs 750 MW south of town on US-287. That is a lot of trades in a town of six thousand.

The job

IREN bought 420 acres at Childress in 2022 and built it into the company's largest campus—750 MW, fully grid-connected. In November 2025 it signed a five-year, $9.7 billion cloud deal with Microsoft and started building four identical 50 MW halls, Horizon 1 through 4, with direct-to-chip liquid cooling for NVIDIA GB300 clusters bought under a $5.8 billion Dell agreement.

Horizon 1 was delivered on August 13, 2026. The remaining three are on IREN's schedule through the rest of the year—200 MW of new AI capacity on one site inside twelve months. Beyond that, IREN has filed for a further 75 MW liquid-cooled hall on the same ground.

The town has felt it. Childress residents have protested apartment rents that doubled to $1,500–2,000 a month as the workforce arrived. There are chain hotels on 287, but by the week they add up, and none of them has a kitchen. That's the gap we're filling: furnished weekly rooms in and around Childress with the truck parked outside.
